Hyundai Tucson Features: Options You Won't Find in Other Crossovers

Hyundai Tucson When you’re talking about crossovers or mid-sized SUVs, what are the first ones that come to mind?

Ford has the Escape. Honda has the CR-V. Nissan has the Rogue. But the Hyundai Tucson has been on the market and flying under the radar since 2005. But, there are a few reasons why you should stop overlooking the Tucson.

It has top-notch safety ratings and cutting edge technology unlike any crossover in the segment.

Safety

In 2016, Hyundai completely revamped the Tuscon. Now in its 3rd generation, it was rated #1 in its class by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). That means 5-stars overall, with 5-stars awarded for side and impact crash ratings and 4-stars in rollover ratings. That’s incredible, considering the price point. It also comes with a ton of safety features - standard. You read that right, most of the trims - there are 16 options - come with a ton of safety features included.

What are these standard options? Features like brake assist, dual front and side airbags, remote keyless entry, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, and a bunch of stability control (traction control, electronic stability control and a vehicle stability management system).

Plus, some of the higher models offer auto-braking, pedestrian detection, rear-cross traffic alert and lane change warning.

Performance

Let’s talk drivetrain, for a minute. Almost all of the models come with an AWD drive-train, and those that don’t have FWD. You’ve also got a multi-link suspension that offers you a smoother ride. Some of the higher priced models have a 7-speed Ecoshift, which only enhances the ride that much more. Its power-steering responds quickly and fluidly, giving you a lot of versatility and making it a drivable CUV for both tight city streets, or long winding country roads. Most models boast a combined 26-30 mpg (though if you’re in the Eco, you’ll get a little closer to 32), dependent, of course, on the drivetrain.

Tech/Specs

If you thought that the safety features were impressive, just wait. This CUV packs a punch when it comes to its tech and specs as well. The Limited edition (aka the creme de la creme model) gives you an 8” touch screen multimedia audio system. It’s extremely easy to use, so whether or not you’re technologically inclined doesn’t matter. There are also some buttons below the screen that make volume and tuning a breeze.

The standard in the rest of the trims is only slightly less impressive. The other models have a 5” touch screen, which still features all the same functions. The menu options are structured a little differently, but still just as easy to use. The higher end models also offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is a new feature for the 2017 Tucson. Paired with their “Blue Link” technology, you should be able to connect any smartphone, smartwatch, web-based app or in-car app. It’s a system that is similar to Onstar. It helps you locate gas stations, finds shortcuts, lets you know of any mechanical issues and can even make an emergency call (should you need to).

Plus, it has built-in smartphone/USB and auxiliary ports. The best thing? The USB port allow you to access your phone through audio controls, while showing you song information and even charges your device as it is playing.

A Cut Above the Rest

So take that all in for a minute. All of that stuff for around $22,700 MSRP to start. This little 5-passenger CUV is not one that you should let pass you by. So, if you’re in the market for a crossover utility vehicle, stop by your local Hyundai dealer today and take one of these puppies out for a spin and let yourself decide.
