Powertrain Strategy

Three Options Against Two

The 2026 Tucson gives you three ways to power the same SUV. The CR-V gives you two. The Tucson's gas model pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder rated at 187 horsepower with an 8-speed automatic. Step up to the Tucson Hybrid and the rated output rises to 231 horsepower. The Plug-in Hybrid reaches a rated 268 horsepower with up to 32 miles of EPA-estimated electric-only range.

Honda's lineup covers a turbocharged gas engine rated at 190 horsepower and a hybrid rated at 204, both using a CVT. Honda does not currently sell a gasoline plug-in hybrid CR-V in the United States, so New Hampshire shoppers choose between gas and hybrid.

If your daily round trip runs under 30 miles, the plug-in option means most weekdays never reach the gas station.

Inside Tucson and CR-V

What You Touch Every Day Matters

Screen size is the clearest cabin difference between these two. The 2026 Tucson includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen on every trim, with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto standard. The 2026 CR-V moved to a 9-inch standard screen this year across its lineup and added a standard wireless charging pad.

Both SUVs put a driver assistance suite in the base trim. Hyundai SmartSense and Honda Sensing each cover automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping assistance as standard.

The Tucson goes one step further. Blind-Spot Collision Warning and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist are standard on the base SE. The CR-V adds blind spot monitoring from the EX trim up.

Space works out close. Rear legroom measures 41.3 inches in the Tucson and 41 inches in the CR-V. Fold the seats and the CR-V holds slightly more room, 76.5 cubic feet against 74.8 on the industry-standard measure. The Tucson counters with a longer wheelbase and a dual-level cargo floor that adjusts for taller loads.

Traction and Towing Around Winnipesaukee

All-wheel drive is where these two match. HTRAC All-Wheel Drive is available on every gas Tucson trim and standard on the Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid. Honda's Real Time AWD is available across the CR-V range, with revised traction management for 2026. Either setup is well suited to Route 106 in February.

Towing is where they separate. A properly equipped gas Tucson is rated to tow up to 2,750 pounds. The gas CR-V is rated at up to 1,500 pounds, and the CR-V Hybrid at up to 1,000 pounds. For a Lakes Region household, that gap decides if the boat comes along. A small fishing boat or a two-place snowmobile trailer sits inside the Tucson's range and outside the CR-V's.
